National Multidimensional Poverty Index - Baseline Report 2021
This report introduces India's Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) based on the NFHS-4 (2015-16) survey. It measures poverty across three equally weighted dimensions—Health, Education, and Standard of Living—further broken down into 12 indicators including nutrition, maternal health, and bank accounts. The report provides a granular analysis of poverty at the national, state, and district levels, offering a "headcount ratio" and "intensity of poverty." This baseline was designed to identify specific deprivations and inform evidence-based policy interventions to ensure no one is left behind.
